6/22/2023 0 Comments Red Sonja, Vol. 1 by Gail Simone![]() It grounded me in the world without distracting me from the story itself. A hard balance to strike, but he does it well. Walter Geovani's art is both on part with contemporary comic style, while still keeping the classic feel of the Red Sonja books. Either way it's always great to see canon fleshed out. I can't tell if it's a full-on retcon of Sonja history, which wouldn't be bad. As a long time fan of the character, in all her many incarnations, I'm intrigued by this change and very interested in the new addition to her history. Simone's Sonja is a departure from the cold, stalwart warrior woman that we're used to seeing. ![]() After reading this first issue I'm both intrigued, but still a wary. We get a glimpse into Sonja's past, and a new take on the character that is surprising. This is the first issue in Gail Simone's run of Red Sonja. ![]()
